Sightseeing in Rothenburg ob der Tauber
The one-time free imperial city Rothenburg is located at the intersection of the Burgenstraße and the Romantischer Straße. Our mediaeval city is embossed from the historical city core and the countless sights. During a city walk through the partial narrow alleys you have to pause time and time again to let the historical buildings sink in one. Although I often walk through the alleys I recognise particular corners time and time again. I want to suggest the gothic St. Jakobs church. In the first floor there is a holy blood altar from Tilman Riemenschneider. Take the time to take place in front of the altar to survey it. ... The time is worth.
For the evening I suggest the round tour with our night watchman. With stories and anecdotes he abducted his guests in the past. Meeting point is at the market place in front of the city hall every evening. ... Don't pass this up.
Also a walk on the battlement of the city wall and the stair climb up to the city hall tower with a nice look over the historical old town add to a wonderfully experience. Attention it is a narrow way up!
The past gets alive because of the citizens of Rothenburg who attend and impart the tradition by homebound and folk plays like "Der Meistertrunk". During a guiding tour and conversations the native liven the historic of the city up and show enjoyable and colourful history lessons can be. On Pentecost and on the first weekend in September the old town convert in to a mediaeval city. Many historical groups act the live of the citizens of the 17th century.
In the Advent season every year the traditional Reiterlesmarkt takes place from the first Advent to the 23rd of December. The Christmas market would named like the Rothenburger Reiterle, whose shakes offers great and petty treasures which are around the city hall, in the arch and on the marketplace. My favourite is the white hot spiced wine which is offered from the vineyard "Glocke" from Frankenweide.
Kind regards and see you soon in Rothenburg ob der Tauber
